What information is sent from my computer during an AVG Free Edition update?
During the first request for update (after AVG Free Edition installation), the AVG Free Edition update server creates an unique number (an ascending sequence) that will identify the particular instance of the AVG Free Edition. This number does not store any information from user's computer. The assigned anonymous number will be used in all update requests from the AVG Free Edition. |

Recommended update 7.5.503 offers firewall driver
During recommended update to version 7.5.503 AVG Free Firewall Driver can be offered to be updated. This does not mean that AVG Free contains firewall component now. There is only new driver (which is common for email scanner and firewall) used in this build. This behaviour can occur on Windows Vista, when AVG 7.5.441 or older build is being updated.

AVG Free Edition found a hidden extension, what does this mean?
Some viruses hide themselves by doubling their file extension. For example, the VBS/Iloveyou virus attaches a file, ILOVEYOU.TXT.VBS, to e-mails. The default Windows setting is to hide known extensions, so the file looks like ILOVEYOU.TXT. When you open it you do not open a .TXT text file but instead execute a .VBS script file.
