I have some files in the AVG Virus Vault. What next?
Most of today's viruses (Trojan horses, I-Worms, Worms, Backdoors, etc) create infected files. In such cases the only way to remove the infection is to delete the infected file. When you moved the file to the AVG Virus Vault it was deleted from its original location, coded, and then saved in a non-executable file in a hidden folder. Your PC is no longer infected. |

Does AVG Free Edition include the command-line scanner?
You can use the avgscan.exe file for these purposes. It has to be run with parameters, so if you want to scan your C:\ drive, you have to run this command-line scan in the following format: avgscan.exe C: /parameters.
If you want to scan a specific file/directory, you have to replace the C: path by specific path. The list of possible parameter you can get by the avgscan.exe /? command.

Has a new AVG Free Edition Rescue Disk to be created whenever AVG Free Edition is updated?
Yes, it is highly recommended. You can use an older version of the Rescue disk to restore system parts of your PC but for removing/healing viruses you need the Rescue disk with latest virus database. It isn't possible to use Rescue disk for removing/healing viruses on NTFS disks, therefore the creating of Rescue disk isn't available on operating systems running of NTFS. |

How can I set programs like WinZip, GetRight etc. to scan files used by them?
Within the 3rd party program scanning options choose avgw.exe with /SE parameter (avgw.exe /SE) as the internal antivirus scanner. Avgw.exe file is located in the AVGFree Edition directory – usually C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free directory on your hard drive. If you would like to use AVG Free Edition for checking files in WinZip archived files, it is necessary to use the following configuration parameters within WinZip, as shown below:
WinZip->Options->Configuration->Program Locations
Scan program:
Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgw.exe
Parameters:
/SE %d
